Wishes are just dreams that you've yet to realise!
Born in the creative heartland of Birmingham, UK, Gemma grew up surrounded by inspiration, leading her to dabble in writing and painting! Back in secondary school, she discovered her ‘writing voice’ by spinning short stories featuring her friends as the stars. But then, tragedy struck! A dreaded teacher stumbled upon her work and delivered some brutal feedback that left Gemma convinced she’d hang up her pen for good.
Fast forward to years later, after marrying her high school sweetheart and making some new pals at work, the writing spark reignited! Thanks to the relentless creativity of her friend Sammi, who bombarded her with fan-fictions and anime, Gemma found her groove again. The fruit of that revival? “Blood and Rain!”
Since then, Gemma has been on a quest to level up her writing game, diving into self-publishing, editing, and proofreading courses like a literary ninja! Her friends are still nudging her to churn out more tales, and she’s got a treasure trove of ideas brewing, all while tackling the delightful chaos of motherhood. Yep, those adorable munchkins are her new cheerleaders!
But wait, there’s more! Gemma isn’t just a wordsmith; she’s a book cover designer, editor, proofreader, sculptor, and artist extraordinaire! As if that wasn’t enough, she’s even completed a BA in Ceramics and Glass to add more colorful feathers to her artistic cap! Watch out world, Gemma’s just getting started!

Well, as a newbie self-published author diving into this wild world just a few years back, I’m not exactly a pro on the subject! But here’s my golden nugget: write, write, and then write some more! If you hit a wall, just climb over it and start again! Being a writer isn’t just about chasing dollar bills or fame; it's a heartfelt dance with words, whether your masterpiece gets rave reviews or ends up as a dust bunny in your attic. If you had the itch to write, if you felt that rush putting pen to paper, then who cares what anyone else thinks?
Now, when it comes to self-publishing versus traditional routes, that’s your call! Chat with fellow writers, hit up events, and soak in all the info you can find. Just remember: if a publisher or agent asks you for cash upfront, run for the hills! They’re probably ‘vanity’ publishers, and trust me, they’re not worth your time. They might look shiny and offer the moon, but I’ve heard their promises are as empty as a forgotten cookie jar.
